The title of my article is probably pretentious … I do not pretend to have all tested cuisine in Saigon ! But during some days, I had a glimpse Thanks to this website … so here’s my best of food !
We start with a small night market along Pham Ngu Lao street … there are many stalls that sell a bit of everything , including fried skewers with sausage, shrimp and other donuts … all accompanied by a juice of freshly squeezed sugar cane , and why not some popcorn , it’s delicious !
The first good restaurant is a place called Huong Lai, located on Ly Tu Trong . In addition to excellent food, is staffed by former street children recruited by a boss who has trained and helps them out … a quiet atmoshpere , great service and smiling ! It was the best spring rolls of stay , that is, they were good! And salad with lotus leaves … hmm …
Another top restaurant: Bo Tung Xeo
Under this sort of shed , the specialty is barbecue beef with garlic. Accompanied by rice , salad and grilled corn, it is a delight … not to mention the local beer ( 333 !) , Obviously. And all for … less than $ 10 per person. This is the right place to est in Saigon !
And if you’re brave , you can try other specialties of the local street restaurant … There are crocodile, rat, and also the ” beef penis sauteed with Chinese herbs ” … uh, any volunteers?
One last small restaurant , if you still a little hungry . Stuck in a small alley near the Ben Thanh market , a very local (and cheap ) restaurant , which is called Nam Giao . It serves including rice cakes in banana leaves ( you never know what you eat too , but it’s good !) And excellent beef soups !
– Huong Lai : 38 Ly Tu Trong . Booking in advance is reccommended because it’s often full. Tel: 8226814 . Menu 10 USD .
– Bo Tung Xeo : 31 Ly Tu Trong . 10USD for a BBQ + beer.
– Nam Giao : 136/15 Le Thanh Ton. from 6 USD .
